Let's Make a Travel Album: The Supplies

Last week, I started working on the travel album for my recent trip to France. The first step for me is about getting organized and I shared the steps I use to start a new album.

I now have all my pics printed and ready to go in my album.



I have also combed through my stash and pulled the supplies I want to use in this album. I didn't buy anything new because I have lots of supplies. This is a great opportunity to use some of my lovely supplies.



These enamel dots and paper clips from Freckled Fawn are the color inspiration for my supplies. I like to have a color palette for an album like this because it helps unify the whole thing.





There is a little bit of everything in there - Freckled Fawn, Bella Blvd, Teresa Collins, Pink Paislee and Crate Paper. Using the enamel dots as a reference, I was able to combine products from different manufacturers to create a kit of supplies that works together. I also selected products made from different materials - wood veneer, cork, metal, etc... because a variety of textures creates visual interest.





In the second basket, I'm storing a few more embellishments and my stamps. For some one who doesn't call herself a stamper, I sure have a lot of Kelly Purkey stamps.



Labels are essential. They're great for layering and journaling.

This is my collection of travel embellishments. It's a mish-mash of products from many different manufacturers and collections. I just keep adding travel embellishments here and pick what I want when I need it. I do love picking through little collections of embellishments.



Last but not least, I have selected some washi tape from my stash. I picked washi that coordinated with the enamel dots but were different from each other. That way, I have lots of options while I'm scrapping.

The whole point of picking through my supplies and making a kit for this album is to limit the amount of time I have to spend finding supplies. I make it a rule to stick to the supplies in the kit. Of course, if you know me then you know that I will happily break that rule if I have to - like if I know I have the-perfect-thing-in-that-bin-over-there. So, I guess it's more a guideline than a rule.

This week, I'll start putting my album together. Next Wednesday, I'll come back and share my progress.

A little something...

...a little page, a little snowman. It's just a little something to share today.



The pattern paper is a piece left over from another project that went wonderfully with this pic. It's little smaller than 6x8" so I stapled it in place using my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher.



I covered the back in a different sheet of pattern paper - it's from Prima's new Bella Rouge collection. Then I journaled on a Project Life 3x4" grid card because I wanted my words to stand out on the page. I like journaling on the back of these small pages because I can write as much as I want and it doesn't effect the design of my page. It's the best of both worlds.

So, there you have one of my quick and simple little pages. I little something for a Thursday.

An Easy Way to Scrap Lots of Photos

 The answer is pocket pages, of course!

This is the quickest, easiest way for me to scrap to all the photos I want to use to tell a single story.  I am a single photo scrapper when it comes to a traditional 12x12" spread so when I have a bunch of photos I am stumped! It takes too long for me to figure out where to put the photos and that's not how I like to spend my creative time.
 
With divided page protectors, I don't have to worry about where to fit the photos because that is already decided for me. Pocket page protectors are available in almost any album size but I happen to prefer the 6x8" size by SN@P. There are lots of page configurations to choose from so I always have lots of choice.  Of course, with the new Fuse Tool by We R Memory Keepers you can make any size or style pocket page you like.



I managed to fit 5 photos on this spread something I would never try on a traditional scrapbook page. These pics are from different events but show my relationship with Ben over time - from a little newborn to present. That's something that I could never do with a traditional 12x12" layout.

So, here's to quick and easy pages and having fun in the process.

I made a Fast and Fabulous page and You Can Too!

All you really need is one great photo.

This page came together so quickly because it started with a hilarious picture of my sister and Ben. I know not every photo is going to be "the best" but sometimes, I'm lucky. Sometimes, I have a photo that is strong enough to carry a layout all by its self and it doesn't need fancy embellishing or techniques. It's wonderful all on its own. And the good news is, we all have photos like that in our stash. And, it turns out, these are the photos that make for fast scrapbooking.



I paired my photo with that lovely patterned paper from Echo Park's All About a Boy collection. Then I cut the title using the Pacifico font and my Silhouette Cameo. You can download it for FREE here. I cut each word twice - once with white cardstock and again with a pattern paper. Then I offset them and stuck them down.



Finally, I added some Studio Calico wood veneer stars. I like to get a pinch of stars and then drop them on the page. If I don't like how they look, I pick them up and try again. When I'm happy, I glue them down with Claudine Hellmuth Studio Matte Multi-Medium in the 1/2 oz bottles. These little bottles are perfect for sticking down any kind of wood veneer. If you don't have a bottle, you need one.



I could have added more layers and embellishments and techniques but why? I didn't want to overwhelm my photo and I really didn't have a lot of time.  I'm definitely not a fast scrapper so not many of my pages come together this quickly but it sure helps to have a great photo to get the process started.
