Is it possible to be too inspired? I think so because I want to try it all. Trying to choose from all those options can be a process in itself. So, I've decided to work on 2 new skills: sketching and lettering.
This is all very new to me and I have so much learn and practice but I wanted to share some pages that I have made recently. This is way out of my comfort zone - sharing things as I start learning how to do them but learning is part of the process, right?
The background is Bundled Sage Distress Paint over gesso. I like to gesso pages when I use paint. I like how the paint moves. It gives me more options for different techniques. I sketched the tree using a Stabilo watersoluble pencil. Then I used a waterbrush to blend the lines and add the dots and the border around the page.
And here's a closeup...
And here's some lettering that I've been working on...
This page isn't finished yet. I thought all that blue space would be perfect for one of Dina Wakley's silhouette stencils but I haven't added it yet. Lettering reminds me of junior high and high school when we would write fancy letters in our notes. It is a great thing to do while "watching" tv.
I'm tempted to take some online lettering classes and wondering if you have any suggestions? If yes, please leave a note in the comments sharing your favorite.
Thanks for stopping by!
Have a great weekend.
your tree feels how it is at my house right now....an ice storm blowing, knocking down trees and going from page to page to..... I love the flow and movement of your tree page. i also thought of the tree of life when i saw it and thought...why does the tree of life always have to be up and down...doesn't god also do sideways, like yours? so you see, your art got me thinking very introspectively! happy balzering day. oh...the quote is fantastic. pay attention samara! lovies, samara
ReplyDeleteThanks, Samara. Such a lovely comment. As I learn to sketch/draw, I'm experimenting with everything. I imagine I'm going to have trees going every which way before I'm done. It's very windy where I live, too so it's very possible that our trees look like that from time to time. : )
DeleteLove your lettering! I agree with you that sometimes there is so much to learn, try, do. So many very cool art supplies available out there, that at times I just don't know what I want to use next. It's amazing how many tutorials that are out there, too. I'd like to play around with pan pastels and lettering. Thank you for visiting and leaving such a kind comment, Cathie. Have a wonderful weekend! Kathy
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy! Thanks for taking the time to come over and visit. Pan Pastels and lettering sounds like a lot of fun. I'll have to keep that in mind. I don't have any Pan Pastels yet, maybe someday...
DeleteKeep having fun, try lots of things, and don't mind if you don't like it! It's just as useful to know what you don't like as what you do :)
ReplyDeleteGood advice, Tracy! If you're afraid of failing or making mistakes or making ugly things, you'll never make anything!
DeleteToo inspired, I know exactly what you mean, if we only had 48 hour days right? Love your lettering, it's amazing. I always struggle with lettering and love to see other who do it SO well. xox
ReplyDeleteawww. Thanks, Corrine. As in all things, it's all about practice, practice, practice. I have so much to learn but I like where I'm going so far.
