Index Card a Day 2: Days 1-5

 Hey, hey!

Last week my friend Sara, tweeted about a great little challenge called Index Card a Day 2 or ICAD2.  It's being lead by Tammy of Daisy Yellow and you can find all the details in this FAQ page she created.

I said "yes" before you could blink and before I realized it's a 61 day challenge. That's right 61 days. eeps! I was worried I wouldn't be able to come up with something to do 61 days in a row so I decided to Zentangle. If you're not familiar with Zentangle, you can find all kinds of information and patterns on the Zentangle website. (You knew there had to be one, right?)

So, on June 1, I opened up my cards and started with the OOF or Out of Focus pattern. It was terrible.
See...

ICAD2 Day 1

I was tempted to change my plan for ICAD2 but decided to stick it out a little longer. Clearly, I needed some practice.

Day 2 was better.  I like how it looks when I fill the whole card not just part of it.

Day 3 was okay.

But on Day 4, I added color and that has made all the difference.

ICAD2 Day 4

I'm using my Stampin' Up Tombow markers like watercolor paint and loving the results. I scribble some color on a plastic mat and then pick it up with a watercolor brush.

Here's Day 5. It's my favorite.

ICAD2 Day 5

It took for-ev-er to make that card. I'm not kidding. I drew the whole thing in pencil. Then colored with the Tombow markers.  Then I traced all the pencil lines with a black sharpie. So much work and that's probably why I. love. it.  If it was bigger I would put it on my wall.  I may just try to make a canvas inspired by this one...maybe.

So, that's where I am. I love these daily challenges because they encourage practicing.  So often, we expect to be a good at something right away and if we're not good we feel like quitting.  There is so much to be said for practicing - just a few minutes a day.

If you're playing along make sure to upload your pics to the ICAD2 Flickr gallery so we can all see what you're making.  If you're not participating,  I hope you will consider (or reconsider) joining in. I am so glad I did.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Wow! You have really evolved with your zentangles in 5 cards. I agree, the addition of the color makes all the difference. My favorite is #5 too. Great Job!

    1. Thanks, Liz. Funny thing about practice, eh? If only I could pop back in time and tell my younger self what I (finally) learned!

  3. 61 days is a HUGE COMMITTMENT! And you're my hero for taking this one on... I don't think I've got the drive and I'd probably get stressed out if I missed a day! So... I'm going to live vicariously through you on this one. GREAT JOB!

    1. Thanks for the encouragement! I try not to think about the commitment but I won't stress about missing a day. If I fall behind I'll either make it up the next day or tack it on at the end. If you haven't already, you should check out the Flickr gallery and all the amazing cards there, too.
