Make Mine Mixed Media: Cards Edition

This week, I'm excited to teach my first Mixed Media Card Class at my LSS, The Paperie. Here's a look at the cards we will be making in class.

We'll be using some of my favorite techniques and lots of products from Finnabair's Art Basics Line for Prima to create colorful and creative cards. Did I mention quick and easy? Oh yes, mixed media cards can quick and easy. No promises about clean and simple though - ha!

Space is limited so call or email The Paperie today if you want to grab a spot.

Thanks for stopping by!

Teacher Gifts

Hey, hey!

Today is a big day around here. Gabriel has his little preschool concert. His first concert ever!  The camera is charged, he knows his lines and his outfit is ready to go. Oh the maternal joy.

We have had such a fabulous year with Early Achievers' preschool program.  His teachers and little friends have been wonderful and Gabriel has done so well.  All I wanted from this program was for him to play with kids his own age and get a sense of what Kindergarten will be like. I have gotten so much more. So, obviously, I had to make his teachers a little set of cards to say "thank you".

I made a Distress Splatter Flower card. It's my go-to card, right now.

For this one, I punched out the hearts, backed them with some book text and added some faux stitching,

The pinwheel is my favorite.

Then I just bundled 6 cards with some colorful envelopes and tied them up with twine.

A cute little something for a couple of wonderful teachers.

I usually blog about my art journaling on Friday and I hope to be back with something later. Maybe. In the meantime,  check out Julie's blog for today's Art Journal installment.  They are always fabulous.

Have a great weekend.

Hey, hey!

Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I was finishing up some contract work and enjoying the amazing sunshine.

So...a quick post today about a card that made itself.  My scraps live in 1 of 2 baskets.  One basket holds small scraps of my absolute favorite paper that I can't bear to throw out. The other basket is for my larger scraps.

The idea for this card just appeared one day when the scraps lined up in my small scrap basket.

The hearts in the old Basic Grey plaid paper came from using the My Favourite Things Hearts a Plenty dienamic die and the teal chevron paper came from my last Paperie Pick post (which you can read here).  These pieces came from two totally different projects but work so well together, don't you think?

I just stapled the pieces together using my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher and stamped the sentiment with the Hero Arts, Sending Smiles set.  Then I put it on some kraft cardstock.  It was that easy.

Here's a close up of my card.

So, the next time you're picking through your scraps, keep your eyes open.  You never know what great combinations are there waiting to be discovered.
