I Love Circles: Art Journal Everyday

You may (or may not) have noticed my love of circles. It's definitely the shape that catches my eye most often.  And this week, I've been using lots of circles in my journal. Let me show you.

I made these circles with Golden Fluid Acrylic Paint in Carbon Black. I was just playing around with colors and decided to add some circles as a focal point image. And, as I so often do, I chose the title of a song - this time in German - to lead my journaling. I'll add that later.

It's another grungy and messy color experiment. I love the combination of teal and the Claudine Hellmuth Studio Modern Red paints.  I made the circle with teal india ink which I squirted around just to make things messy. This page needs something to finish it off. It will come to me later.

And finally...



More india ink circles. There are 3 different colors of blue india ink on this page: turquoise, teal and aqua. They are very similar. In fact, I can't tell them apart yet - ha! Still, I love them all.

And that's what I've been up to this week in my art journal. Lots of experimenting and lots of fun.

Paperie July Kit Club: Sneak Peek

As promised, here's a look at one of my projects using The Paperie's July kit. This month, the kit has lots of Studio Calico's Heyday Collection (including badges, wood veneer cameras/people - yays!). There's also a Dear Lizzy stamp set and pack of the cutest little chipboard elements, a chipboard alpha, some My Mind's Eye trim, buttons and some DooDads from October Afternoon. 

So, here's my first page.



All the paper is from Studio Calico's Heyday collection.  I love these papers so much I cut them up when I could to stretch them out a bit.  I also love love love the wood veneer cameras. You'll see them on almost every layout I made this month. And finally, the cassette tape diecut is from October Afternoon's Cakewalk Doodad package. I hope some one is working on wood veneer cassette tapes. That would make my 80's heart so happy.



There are a couple of things on this page that aren't in the kit. Like the paint dots. I used some Jenni Bowlin for Ranger paint dabbers in Speckled Egg and Lemon Drops and some Claudine Hellmuth Studio Classic Teal paint and the end of a paint brush to make the dots. I also used my new Starburst stamp from Studio Calico/Hero Arts and some clear embossing powder.



I cannot believe that that little boy has grown up to be a not so little boy who is starting school in September. Ack.

ICAD2: still sharing

Hey, hey!

Just a quick post today about another couple of cards I made Saturday when I was art journaling with my friend, Tina.  I brought my art journal but only ended up working on my index cards.  They are super portable and turned out to be a great way to try all of Tina's fun supplies.

Day 31



The background is a funny combination of Dylusions ink sprays and Claudine Hellmuth Studio paint in Classic Teal. The chevron stamp is from Stampin' Up and I colored it with a black gelato by Faber Castell. Then I misted it with water and stamped.

The house stamp is from a Claudine Hellmuth set called Neighborhood. I have a thing for houses and this set is delightful.  The sentiment is from another Dyan Reaveley set. Then I doodled a white border using my Signo White Gel Pen.

Day 29



This card has yet another background using the Dylusions ink sprays.  They are fabulous and index cards are a great way to use up all that overspray.  I sprayed some Studio Calico Mister Huey Calico White through Dyan Reaveley's Letter Jumble stencil and stamped the text using the Hero Arts Friend Definition background stamp.  You can also see some more of the old old old AC rub-ons in there (the small circles) and a doodled border in black pen. I made up the note using the Tim Holtz Chit Chat stickers.  I doodled a little border on each sticker to help the words stand out.  I like how that little detail works.

ICAD2 Day 22 update

Oh, I love this card for day 22. It's so textured and I love the colors and there's actually a story here! Can you believe it?

Here's the card...



The note says, "it bugs him that sometimes  I confuse astronomy with astrology". The "him" is my husband, Samy. It bugs him because (as I'm told) one is science and the other is "signs" - as in "what's your sign, baby? Now I make the mistake on purpose just to tease him.

This card was a grand experiment with painting on tin foil.  I crinkled the tin foil a little before sticking it down with multi-medium. Here's a tip when painting on tin foil, use gesso. I was anxious to get started and skipped this step.  It wasn't very long before I had to gesso the card and start over because without the gesso the paint kept lifting off.  So be patient and use gesso.

Anyway, look at the texture the tin foil gives the background.



The paint is a combination of Classic Teal and Smidge of Blue by Claudine Hellmuth Studio for Ranger. The lighter blue is just the Smidge of Blue mixing with the gesso because I didn't wait for the gesso to dry.  For once, my impatience was rewarded!

I stamped the white circle by painting the end of a empty toilet paper tube with white paint. Then I sprayed it with some water to blur the outline.  Lastly, I drew a white line using my Signo White Gel Pen around the edges.  I did try to sand the paint to reveal some of the tin foil but the paint started to flake off so I stopped sanding. I'm just not a sander, it seems.

This card was so much fun to make that I've started a similar page in my art journal.  And I bet this would look amazing on some altered art. So, go grab some tin foil, paint and gesso and try this out. There are so many possibilities I think you'll love it.
