Hi Friends,
Thanks for visiting. Here's my art journal page for this week.
It started as a page for a class I'm teaching next week at The Paperie that wasn't working out.
I didn't take any pics but I did make notes. Here's how it started out.
Layer 1: Gesso with a palette knife.
Layer 2: Marks in the gesso using cardboard and paper towel tubes.
Layer 3: I made a glaze using Polished Jade Dylusions spray ink and Liquitex Glazing Medium. You can't see that layer but it was gorgeous.
Layer 4: Stamping with stamps and black Archival Ink.
Layer 5: Stamping in paint with found objects. You can see the Golden Fluid Acrylic in Quinacridone Magenta in the top right corner.
Layer 6: Then I added letter stickers to spell "create" and sprayed with more Polished Jade. It was too dark so I misted with White Linen Dylusions ink. I was trying to create and contrast so when I removed the letter stickers you could read the word. It didn't work and that's when I stopped.
When I came back to this page, the letter stickers were good and stuck and I ripped them when I tried to pull them off. It turned out to make a cool texture. So I left it and colored over it with a charcoal pencil.
Then I journaled what I was feeling. A note to remind myself that being creative everyday is more important than worrying about making perfect or beautiful art. I worry about those kinds of things more than I like.
Then I picked up a Lyra watercolor crayon and made a circle. I didn't think about it too much but I liked how it looked so I did it a bunch of times - lots of different sizes and colors.
I blended the color with a wet brush and decided to try adding some shading. So, I used the black Lyra crayon and shaded all the circles. It was too dark and heavy so I blended with a wet brush and blotted off some of the color with a paper towel to get that grungy look. Fun and easy to do.
Then some splashes of white paint to lighten up the page. It reacted with the Dyluions Polished Jade under there and became teal like.
And finally, some stamping on the circles using an old Hero Art text stamp. It's discontinued but I love it.
And here's a closeup of some of the texture. I really love it when my page has lots of texture.
So, that's it for me. If you have any questions, just leave me a note in the comments.
Wishing you lots of creative time this weekend!
Cathie
