finding my style...part 2

So,  over the weekend I played along with Shimelle Laine's online crop. Having all those challenges to inspire me is definitely coming in handy as I plan for my LOAD challenge.  What's LOAD? You can read about it in late last night's blog post

Over the weekend, I made 6 pages and 4 of them are directly inspired by challenges posted by Shimelle. And here they are (in no particular order)...

Challenge 1: Inspiration Point

This is definitely a warm up page. I love framing the photo with paints but it's not my favourite layout of the weekend.  However, it's a page about Sam and it's done. So, yay! Well, it's done for now.  I might go back in and tinker a bit. maybe...

Challenge 5: Inspiration Points

This is one is my favourite so far.  I typed the journaling on the photo using my vintage Underwood typewriter (love). Punched some snowflakes from MLYB Winter Twig paper to create a tone one tone effect.  I didn't like the snowflakes all flat and blah so I gave them a quick spritz of Perfect Pearls mist.  Still tone on tone but with some interest.

Challenge 4: Color Adventure

The challenge was to use grey, yellow and one other color on your layout.  I made the background using a piece of fabric which I stapled to a piece of kraft cardstock.  You could say the "other color" in my layout is black but in real life the purple flowers in the picture really pop. The "other color" could also be purple.

Challenge 3: Mixing Styles

This one was the hardest and took me the longest. I like to art journal but my pages rarely take on the artsy or experimental feel of my journals.  This page is a combo of Dina Wakley and Christy Tomlinson's styles. It took many, many layers to change that Hello Sunshine Gossamer kraft paper to that purple mess. I wish I had taken pictures of the steps because I had to keep piling on the layers to get here.

I'm still working through the challenges and I'll post any more pages I finish here when they're ready.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. WOW. These pages are amazing!! I love that you added pearl mist to the tone on tone snowflakes. It really adds to the page. Stapling fabric onto cardstock?? Ingenious. And I adore your "art journal" page. You are so creative!!! =D

    1. Thanks! It was a challenge to keep going when what I really wanted to do was throw everything in the garbage.

I recently discovered Christy's videos - so amazing & addictive.
